PANJIM: With the promotion of Police Sub Inspectors (PSI) to Police Inspectors (PI) not happening, the shortage of PIs as police station in charge can be seen in about eight stations across the State.
There are eight police stations without full-time Inspectors for the last two years as promotions are pending for the last three years.
Dabolim Airport Police Station has no full time inspector and the Inspector of Mormugao Harbour Police Station PI holds charge.
The other seven police stations are headed by Sub Inspectors which includes Panjim Coastal Police Station, Betul, Pernem and Siolim.
The Traffic Cells also face similar issues as Canacona, Bicholim and Quepem Traffic Police Stations are headed by PSIs.
Some PSIs speaking to Herald said the department has not effected promotions for the last three years and hence these Police Stations are headed by PSIs. “The payment scale we receive is of PI, the work we do is of Inspectors but the rank is not given,” a PSI said.
Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander said all pending promotions will soon be cleared. “During the last several days the SP Headquarters is working on the pending promotions as it was held up due to the code of conduct in the State. These promotions will be cleared soon,” Chander said.
