PORVORIM: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has demanded that equipment kits for finding fault in the underground cabling should be made available to the staff of Electricity Department in his constituency.
“It is noticed that the Electricity Department does not have equipment kits to repair and find fault in the underground cabling and I demand that these kits be made available to the staff. Even when most areas in Margao are with underground cabling but still there are power fluctuations, I demand that the staff should figure out the problem and that they also be trained,” Kamat said.
He further said that LED fixtures which have been installed are not working well as in some cases it has been noticed that the power fluctuates.
He also said that the retired staff should be roped in for installation of LED fixtures as they are aware of the areas well and can dictate as to what kind of fixture is suitable.
“There is an urgent need of a 10 KV transformer at Moti Dongor and I demand that this should be looked upon along with maintenance of Electricity Department staff quarters which is bad condition,” he said.
consultant: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo demanded that a consultant be appointed to understand the power problems in the coastal belt.
“There are a lot of power problems in the coastal belt and we thought that underground cabling would be the solution to this but I think the government should appoint a consultant to understand the power problems,” Lobo said.
He added that the coastal belt should be looked differently as the income generated is more. “The hotel industry will flourish if uninterrupted power supply is provided to them. In the next one year another 1200 rooms are in the pipeline if there are power issues how will they get the connections that will take such load?” he said.
Lobo also said that underground cabling work should start from Porvorim to Saligao and from Mapusa to Nagoa should be done on priority basis.
procurement of goods: Velim MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues has demanded that the budget allocation for procurement of goods in the Electricity Department store be increased.
“I demand that the budget allocation for procurement of goods in the electricity department store be increased, as if we have a look in store, nothing is available,”  Rodrigues said.
He further said that Electricity Department should come up with a survey on the old conductors and the same should be replaced on priority.
Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate demanded underground cabling network and maintenance of newly fitted LED fixtures. “All the old transformers in the Taleigao constituency should be changed on priority basis and the technical staff of the Electricity Department be increased as the demand for power has been on the rise,” Monserrate said.
