MARGAO: Benaulim resident Joseph Pinto who was a victim of online fraud squarely blamed the bank for negligence for the loss he suffered and claimed that
if the officials concerned had acted instantly, his money would have been safe.
“I lost Rs one lakh due to a blunder I committed while handling the account but I have lost more money due to the negligence of the bank,” Pinto claimed.
Pinto stated that he lost over
Rs 3.5 lakhs as the bank officials failed to block his account
despite being intimated about the online fraud.
“I had explained to the bank
officials about the incident and requested them to block my transactions but instead they gave me a form and told me
to write down that I had lost
my ATM card.
I informed the bank that I had not lost my card but I was a victim of cyber scam. They then assured me that they would block the transactions on my savings account,” Pinto said
Pinto stated that when he
visited the bank to deposit money and update his passbook, he was shocked to notice that nearly
Rs 4.5 lakh had been withdrawn from his account despite
directing the bank officials to block his account.
He is of the opinion that he would have not lost so much money, if the transaction was blocked on time.
Pinto later filed a complaint with the Cyber cell who are now investigating the matter.
