MARGAO: The tiatr fraternity can breathe a sigh of relief as the repair works on the main auditorium at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, are nearing completion. With renovations almost done, there’s anticipation that bookings for staging tiatr shows will resume, potentially starting in the last week of May or June.
This news brings hope and excitement to the tiatr community, offering them the prospect of returning to the stage and delighting audiences once again.

Rajendra Talak, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, provided an update on the ongoing preparations for the reopening of the main auditorium. Currently, tests related to the stage and sound are underway to ensure that the facilities meet the required standards.
As part of these tests, tiatr shows are being organised by Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, to assess the functionality of the stage and sound systems. The first test was conducted on May 10, allowing for the evaluation of the stage and sound systems in a live setting, providing insights into the effectiveness of the renovations. Building on this successful test, a second tiatr, written by Pascoal de Chicalim, is scheduled to be presented on the renovated stage on May 13, said Talak.
RBM’s main auditorium has been closed for performances since March 18, undergoing major renovations related to the stage and sound systems. These renovations were undertaken by the Public Works Department to enhance the infrastructure and facilities of the auditorium.
The closure of the auditorium during the Easter season posed challenges for several tiatr directors and producers, who were unable to stage their new release shows as originally planned. However, a group of tiatr directors demonstrated understanding of the situation and agreed to the hall’s closure, albeit with the condition that the renovation works would be completed on time.
In an interview with O Heraldo, Talak revealed that a decision regarding the reopening of the auditorium for staging tiatr and other programs is scheduled to be made on May 20. Talak emphasised that feedback from tiatr directors would be solicited and carefully considered before making a final decision regarding the reopening of the auditorium.
He added that minor works related to sound and the surrounding areas of the stage are expected to be completed within the next few days. The majority of the works in the auditorium are nearing completion. Talak expressed gratitude to the tiatr directors for their willingness to assist in carrying out the repair works.
