PANJIM: The Goa Football Association President Churchill Alemao ensured the GFA-Vedanta Women’s League will be a six-team league with a late inclusion of Young Boys of Tonca.
The confirmation came in hours after the five teams – Sirvodem SC, FC Goa, FC YFA, UC Telaulim and Compassion launched and unveiled their team jerseys at Sesa Ghor, Panjim, on Monday.
“With five teams, the winners of the GFA-Vedanta League would have to play a qualifying match to earn their place in the IWL. However, now, we can be assured to have a Goan outfit in the Indian Women’s League for the upcoming season. I would like to thank the management of YBT for accepting the invitation of participating in the tournament and I wish them good luck,” stated Churchill Alemao.
“I have communicated with the five teams about the entry of the sixth team and they all are happy and excited about their participation. With this team we will have extra games, and moreover our Goan girls will get a platform to play in this competition,” he added.
Earlier, the jerseys were unveiled in the presence of senior executives from Vedanta – Joseph Coelho, Director- Iron Ore Goa Business, Saptesh Sardesai, Director- Value Added Business, Leena Verenkar, Group CSR Head, Jovito Lopes, General Secretary of Goa Football Association, along with representative from Vedanta & GFA, all five team captains and respective team management representatives.
Expressing her views on the occasion of unveiling of the jerseys for 5th edition of Vedanta Women’s League, Leena Verenkar, Group CSR Head, Vedanta Limted said, “It gives me immense pleasure to unveil the jerseys for our 5th edition of the Vedanta Women’s League (VWL). My best wishes to all the talented Women footballers across the state for the upcoming season. At Vedanta Sports our constant endeavour is to discover the sports talent from across the country and further nurture them through our grass sports development programs.”
