PANJIM: Compulsory wearing of masks and ban on spitting in public places, along with restrictions on number of travellers on two and four-wheelers are some of the stringent measures that will come into force from Monday, even as the State has allowed relaxation in the lockdown guidelines.

Addressing media persons on Sunday, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that though government has granted relaxation from Monday, it has also put in place some strict rules for public including mandatory wearing of masks while moving out of the houses and no spitting in public places.
“Even though the State is now free of COVID-19 cases, we need to take all the required precautions to ensure that no new cases are reported,” Sawant said.
As per the press statement, under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, the government has made it mandatory to wear mask in public places and work places in a bid to stop the spread of virus. Preferably, people are advised to wear reusable and washable cloth mask and in case of surgical mask, it should be disposed like a biomedical waste after use.
Also, as recommended by the Central government, the State has banned use of smokeless tobacco products that trigger an urge among the consumers to spit. Besides, the anti-tobacco law, the State will take action under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, the Disaster Management Act, 2005 as well as various provisions of the Indian Penal Code 1860, against the violators.
Further, in an advisory issued by the Police, from Monday onwards, no pillion rider would be allowed on two-wheeler, while only two persons, per four-wheeler will be allowed.
Police have said that people should move out of the house only in case of visit to hospital or medical emergency, buying of essentials and going to work, if one is in distress and a senior citizen, also.
