The Belgaum branch of the Hindu Janajagaran Samiti (HJS) on Tuesday protested against IBN-Lokmat Editor Nikhil Wagle after accusing him of misleading people regarding the desecration of idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses in temples of Goa.
The activists, who had gathered at the Sambhaji Udyan near Bogarves, here, were protesting for over two hours condemning the alleged biased attitude of Wagle and demanded action against him.
According to a press release, Sanatan Sanstha has stated that more than 50 idols in 35 Hindu temples were desecrated or destroyed in Goa. However, in a talk show that was telecasted by the IBN-Lokmat channel, Wagle had alleged that such incidents have never taken place in Goa and that the Sanatan Sanstha was misleading the people evoking communal tension.
Speaking on the occasion, Yalappa Patil of HJS Belgaum condemning IBN-Lokmat said despite the proofs of desecration of idols, the channel was not telecasting it. Hindus of Karnataka join the people of Goa in condemning the irresponsible statements by Nikhil Wagle and said that appropriate action must be initiated against him.
An effigy of Nikhil Wagle was also burnt by agitators as a mark of protest against his alleged anti-Hindu remarks.
