1,621 new cases, 42 deaths on Sun

COVID positivity rate stands at 35.49%; Recovery rate rises to 86.58%

PANJIM: The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on Sunday detected 1,621 new cases and recorded 42 deaths.

In the last 7 days, Goa recorded 10,604 cases, 296 deaths and 21,295 recoveries. In all 4568 samples were tested on Sunday. While the daily COVID positivity rate stood at 35.49%, the recovery rate rose to 86.58%.

Of the 42 deaths, 41 persons died within 24 hours while one succumbed on Friday.

Twenty-nine deaths were reported at Goa Medical College (GMC); 11 at South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), one at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Curtorim and one at a private hospital in South Goa. 

DHS said only four of the 42 persons, who succumbed, had taken their first vaccination dose. 

The youngest to succumb to the infection was a 29-year-old man from Cuncolim, who incidentally had no co-morbidities.  The DHS health bulletin stated that 166 patients had been hospitalised and 145 were discharged within 24 hours.

There were 2545 recoveries and 1455 patients were placed under home isolation in the last 24 hours.

The total number of active cases dropped to 17,277 while the total number of deaths rose to 2,383.

The Urban Health Centre (UHC) Margao with 1,775 active cases is the only health centre to report above 1,000 cases. 

UHC Panjim with 973 active cases is followed by PHC Ponda (922), PHC Chimbel (806), PHC Candolim (758), PHC Cortalim (693), PHC Cansaulim (691), PHC Porvorim (669), Community Health Centre (CHC) Pernem (652), CHC Curchorem (612), UHC Vasco (603), PHC Corlim (576), PHC Siolim (567), PHC Curtorim (544), PHC Betki (538) and CHC Sanquelim (524) which have over 500 cases.
