Talathi inspects illegal structures at Chandor

MARGAO: Talathi of Margao Gislain Pereira, accompanied by field surveyor Angela Araujo, on Monday, visited Chandor village to inspect the illegal constructions erected in Comunidade property. Representatives of the Comunidade and some villagers were also present.

It may be recalled that nearly a year back the Cavorim Comunidade had complained about illegal houses being constructed in its property which were reportedly sold by an individual who was claiming ownership of the land.

The Comunidade had initially complained against persons namely Dixon Gomes, Akbar Basha, JS Peixote, Eric Vas, Abdul Gafar Shabaji, Marina Mendes and Salim Shaikh of carrying out illegal constructions. Incidentally Marina Mendes is a former sarpanch of the village.

Subsequently the Comunidade named other persons and hence the inspection was carried out on Monday. Luel Fernandes, the attorney of Cavorim Communidade, along with Tiago da Silva, former president of the Comunidade, were present.

Interestingly, two villagers John Douglas Coutinho and Jaret de Silva were also present. It would be pertinent to point out that recently the villagers had decided to form a vigilant committee to monitor every illegal construction in the village.
