MARGAO: Frequent power outages in Margao Municipal Council (MMC) for the last few days have put the public into major problems; even public service works are badly affected.

Taking serious note of the same, several councillors have demanded to install a generator in the Municipal building immediately. The municipal building was without power for a full morning session, so hundreds of locals had to return home empty-handed. With no power supply, all the sections dealing with issuing the certificates and payment receipts were shut down.
Many who had come to the Municipality for birth and death certificates had to wait for almost four hours in a queue for the power supply to resume.
Expressing frustration over the issue Ritesh Naik, a resident of Margao urged the civic body to resolve the issue of power supply, taking serious note of the problem faced by the public.
“Many people are seen coming from far places for the birth and death certificates, but they have to return back empty-handed. MMC needs to have some backup system in place so that public service is not halted,” said Naik.
Councillors Sagun Naik, Mahesh Amonkar and Johnny Crasto also urged the Chief Officer to install a generator at the earliest.
“Taking into consideration hardships faced by the public due to the no proper power supply, it is the duty of the Municipality to resolve the issue immediately. Being a Councillor we declare our full support to the Chief Officer to buy or make a temporary arrangement of generators at the Municipal building,” demanded Sagun.
A power generator will resolve all the issues, said Councillors Mahesh Amonkar.
Speaking to media persons Rohit Kadam, Chief Officer also admitted that the public had to suffer due to no proper power supply in the municipal building for the last few days.
“Yes, the generator is the need of the hour, but it will take a time to complete the process”, said Kadam.
People have also expressed fear of damage to their electronic items due to the sudden outages of the electricity.
