Usgao vendors voluntarily shut market for 4 days

PONDA: Following 25 COVID positive cases detected, South Goa Collector declared part of Siddheshwarnagar and Avantinagar part of Usgao-Ganjem Panchayat, as micro containment zone, from Friday.

However, despite not coming under the containment zone, the vendors at neighbouring Usgao PDA Market voluntarily decided to keep the market close for four days to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Usgao PDA Market has around 100 Vendors.

Vendor Nyaneshwar Naik and others said, “After we learnt about government declaring containment zone at Siddheshwarnagar and Avantinagar following rise in COVID cases, all vendors held a meeting and decided to keep close the PDA Market for four days as the market is close to the containment area. We will have a review meeting after the four days on Monday and will decide whether to continue to shut the market.” 

“We want to protect our vendors, customers and citizens from the virus and so this decision is taken,” they said.
