PANJIM: A group of farmers from Mapusa, under the banner
Shri Bodgeshwer Shetkari Sangh, has alleged that North Goa Planning and
Development Authority and Town and Country Planning Department were illegally
showing cultivable land as uncultivable by imposing ‘Down Town Scheme’ in the
name of Outline Development Plan (ODP).
“Your department (NGPDA) with the help of Chief Town Planner
is trying to impose Down Town Scheme’ in the name of ODP of Mapusa and the said
land is being shown as uncultivable though it is cultivable,” the farmers said
in a letter to the government authorities on Thursday.

The association, opposing the scheme, also alleged that
roads are being widened by PWD and GSUDA without any land acquisition process
or any notification or required permissions. They stated that the acquisition
process should be transparent.
“If government is taking possession of the land, the farmers
should be paid fair compensation. What is the government trying to show?” one
of the members said after submitting the memorandum to the authorities.
