PANJIM: The Congress has condemned the State government’s
act of directing police to detain its leader Agenlo Fernandes and 10 others for
their “peaceful” protest opposing helicopter landings at Aguada helipad.
“We condemn State government’s high-ended and insensitive
approach in detaining the peaceful protestors, who were raising their voice
against anti-people projects,” Congress spokesperson Adv Yatish Naik told media
persons on Thursday.

Naik was speaking in the presence of Fernandes, who is
Congress General Secretary and ex MLA. “The protest was very peaceful and there
was no need for the government to use such massive police force to detain the
protestors,” Naik said adding that the party will continue to support the
locals opposing the helicopter ride.
Government has currently kept the helicopter ride project at
Aguada on hold. It has decided to identify three new sites in North Goa for developing
helipad.
