The body of a 25-year-old motorcyclist, who went missing after falling into the Salvador do Mundo–Socorro creek on Wednesday night, was recovered on Thursday following an intensive search operation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The deceased has been identified as Akash Vishwakarma (25), a native of West Bengal.
According to officials, NDRF teams resumed the search at around 6:30 a.m. after suspending overnight efforts. Rescue personnel, assisted by local authorities, carried out an extensive search in and around the creek before recovering the victim’s body.
Preliminary information suggests that Vishwakarma was crossing a narrow culvert at Salvador do Mundo–Socorro when his motorcycle allegedly brushed against a scooter. The impact caused him to lose balance and plunge into the creek.
The incident triggered a large-scale rescue operation on Wednesday night, which continued into Thursday morning. Following hours of searching, the NDRF team located and recovered the body from the creek.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
