Rohit Sharma Set for Television Debut With New Show on Sony Entertainment Television

Rohit Sharma is set to enter a new phase of his career with his television debut, as the former India captain prepares to host a brand-new entertainment programme on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV.

Sony Pictures Networks India has officially confirmed that Rohit will take on anchoring and presenting duties for the upcoming show, which is scheduled to launch in September. The announcement was made while the network unveiled its entertainment lineup for the upcoming festive season.

However, Sony has so far kept several details about the programme under wraps. The title, format and exact premiere date of the show have not yet been announced.

The project had first created curiosity among fans in May, when Sony released a teaser featuring Rohit. Rather than revealing the show’s concept, the promotional video played on one of the cricketer’s most recognisable viral moments.

In the teaser, fans repeatedly asked Rohit to repeat his now-famous line, “Koi bhi garden mein nahi ghumega.” The reference quickly became a social media talking point, with Rohit joking about how widely the phrase had travelled and suggesting that he had developed a dislike for gardens because of it.

The upcoming programme will mark Rohit’s first major television appearance as an entertainment host and adds another dimension to his public career beyond cricket.

Rohit stepped away from T20 international cricket in June 2024 before announcing his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025. He continued to represent India in ODIs, although his future in international cricket has remained a subject of speculation.

His transition into television comes as he moves towards a broader presence outside the cricket field. With his popularity extending well beyond sport, the show could give him an opportunity to connect with audiences in an entirely different format.

For Sony, Rohit’s involvement also represents a significant opportunity. The network can potentially use his enormous popularity among cricket fans to attract viewers who may not regularly follow entertainment or reality programming.

Rohit has developed a strong public image over the years, with his relaxed personality, humour and viral one-liners making him a popular figure away from the cricket field as well. Those qualities could prove useful in a hosting role, particularly if the programme relies on conversations, entertainment and celebrity interactions.

Sony is also preparing several other high-profile programmes as part of its upcoming festive-season lineup, including a new version of Crime Patrol featuring Ajay Devgn and the 18th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati.

With the details of Rohit’s show still being kept secret, anticipation is likely to build as the September launch approaches. For one of India’s most recognisable sporting personalities, the move represents a major step into mainstream entertainment and could mark the beginning of a new chapter beyond cricket.
