Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced that she intends to return to Bangladesh in December, saying she is prepared to face imprisonment or even death if necessary. Addressing the media virtually on Wednesday, Hasina said her decision was driven by concern for the country’s future rather than a desire to regain power.
“I know they may put me in jail or kill me,” she said, while affirming her determination to return. “I will go back home to be with my people.”

Speaking via video link, Hasina said she could no longer remain away after witnessing the hardships faced by the people of Bangladesh. She stressed that her return was aimed at restoring the country’s path toward development, secularism and prosperity.
Referring to December as Bangladesh’s “victory month,” Hasina said she had chosen that period for her return despite the risks involved.
“December is our victory month. So, I want to go back in the month of December. I know I may face anything,” she said.
During her address, Hasina also became emotional while recalling the assassination of her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was killed in a military coup. She broke down as she spoke about the tragic event, underscoring the personal significance of her planned return to Bangladesh.
