BICHOLIM: Forest officials arrested two persons for illegally transporting firewood at Assanora bus stand, recently. A forest official said that officer Mahadev Naik who was on patrolling duty came to know from his sources about illegal transportation of fire wood.
Following the information, he camped near Sakhaleshwar Ghumti (small temple dome) on Kasarpal-Assanora main road. At about 7 am, he saw a truck bearing number GA-01-W-2255 coming towards Assanora. He tried to stop the truck, but driver did not stop the vehicle. He later intercepted the truck near Assanora bus stand and called other staff telephonically.
Following the call, RFO Geeriesh Bailudkar along with forest guard Echit Naik rushed to the spot and seized fire wood of volume 8.5 cubic meters. Truck driver Ramesh Zore from Maneri in Maharashtra and his associate Prakash Gawas also from Maharashtra were arrested. Fire wood was brought from Ambeli in Maharashtra.
