PWD directed to cut trees behind Quepem PS

CURCHOREM: Quepem Deputy Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate Shankar Gaonkar has directed the PWD (Roads) Assistant Engineer to cut down the trees behind the Quepem Police Station as the same poses a threat to motorists.

Gaonkar has asked the PWD to cut down the trees or face a show cause notice by February 2. The order, under Section 12 A of the Goa, Daman and Diu of Preservation of Tree Act, 2008, was issued after obtaining a report from the RFO, Quepem.
It may be recalled that Councillor Amol Kanekar filed a complaint with Gaonkar about the urgent need to cut the trees, which are standing close to the main Quepem-Margao road behind the police station.
He had also moved a resolution at a council meeting for the same.
According to Kanekar, many accidents have taken place at the site as the trees obstruct the view of motorists. He added, “I had filed a complaint with the Deputy Collector as earlier complaints to the authorities had fallen on deaf ears.
Recently, two minor boys from a local primary school were injured after their school bus collided into a tree.
