sanguem: Staring at a bleak future ahead and with no guarantee of work at least for the next few months, a large number of stranded migrant labourers at Sanguem gathered in front of the office of the Deputy Collector on Monday morning pleading with the authorities to make immediate arrangements for their journey back home.

The labourers who hail from Uttar Pradesh claimed to have left with no cash earnings and food for their survival in the State of Goa for the days to come.
While thanking the authorities for the provision of food supply in the initial days of lockdown; the disgruntled labour class has now urged the Goa government to make provision either for railway or bus service so as to enable them to proceed to their native state.
The labourers claim that since the time of the lockdown, they are unable to get work of any nature except for those who were working on contract basis. Even those working for labour contractors, managed to get work only for around two days a week, which they say was not sufficient to earn their livelihood.
However, as the Deputy Collector was not available in the office, the workers marched to the Sanguem Police Station where again the labourers could not meet the official concerned as the station-in-charge was on leave.
The labourers were later seen airing their grievances to the locals with the intention of getting some solace from the locals. One worker was seen mercilessly crying as he had lost his mother some days back and could not go home to attend her final rites.
Sources informed that most of the stranded labourers in Sanguem were working on daily basis while few were working on contract basis for a multinational company at Sanguem Industrial Estate.
