PANJIM: The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Goa has warned the State government against any move to amend the Factories Act to increase working hours from 8 to 12 in different industries and factories in State.

Deputy Secretary, AITUC Goa, Suhaas Naik in a press release issued here has said that as per the media reports it is learnt that the State government is trying to push in amendments to Factories Act to make 12 hours working at work place in different industries and factories in Goa.
“Such proposed move if any is made by the State government it will be against the basic statutory provisions of Factories Act and Minnimum wages Act in force. According to Factories Act eight (8) hours working is permissible and if the workers work beyond 8 hours they are entitled for overtime allowance at double the wage and in a week it cannot get extended beyond 48 hours of working. Further as per Section 51 of Factories Act spread over cannot be more than 10 1/2 of working,” he said.
Hence, he added, the working people in State will be forced to oppose such undemocratic and arbitrary decision if any taken by the State government.
