MARGAO: Fatorda residents and leaders met the PWD Executive Engineer of National Highways and presented a memorandum calling for the western bypass to be constructed on stilts at the catchment area as it could otherwise lead to flooding in Madel, Dovondem, Mungul, Chovotem and other parts of Fatorda as well as the neighbouring villages.
The Executive Engineer explained that the contractor is undertaking preliminary works and is yet to submit the final design plan. He stated that this work would take at least six months.
The residents also highlighted the haphazard manner in which the filling was done and the damage done to the river. They also requested that the contractor to make a presentation so that citizens and panchayats could understand the plan and raise objections.
Earlier, residents of Benaulim and Seraulim had also objected to the filling of land for the Western Bypass on grounds that it would cause flooding of the adjoining areas. The Benaulim MLA had demanded an over-bridge to protect the low-lying lands of the two villages.
