Tension gripped Tembewada-Bhagatwada region near Char-Rasta in Canacona late Tuesday night, after some persons allegedly assaulted a 65-year-old woman from Tembewada on Tuesday night.
According to Canacona Police, five persons are arrested on charges of assaults and damaging a car at Bhagatwada-Tembewada and are booked under Sections 147, 143, 323, 427 read with 149 IPC.
According to reports, the incident started after a resident from Tembewada allegedly sought help of a newly elected councillor for assaulting his mother and damaging his wooden fence and entrance gate surrounding his house on Tuesday at about 10.30 pm. The councillor elect reportedly went assisted to shift the woman to the hospital.
It is learnt that on the night of declaration of election results (Monday), some miscreants reportedly damaged wooden entrance gate of house fence of the same Komarpant family at Tembewada. “As a result, a police complaint was filed against unknown persons on Tuesday morning,” informed one Ravi, member of the Komarpant family.
Sources further informed that late Tuesday night, some unknown persons reportedly broke the entire remaining house fence of the same Komarpant family and an old woman, who came out on hearing the noise, was reportedly assaulted.
House occupant, Ravi Komarpant, told Herald that after the assault on his 65-year-old mother, Rukmini, she was taken to Community Health Centre Chaudi and was later shifted to Hospicio in Margao.
Later, the scene reportedly shifted to the residence of outgoing councillor and defeated candidate Sameer Dessai, as police informed that some persons in the middle of the night went to Dessai’s residence, allegedly assaulted him and damaged his car, parked in his garage.
Police further informed that one Manda Eknath Komarpant filed a complaint of assault on her mother-in-law and causing damages to the house fence and entrance wooden fence gate.
Police said five persons are arrested on a complaint lodged by outgoing councillor and former chairperson Sameer Dessai on charges of assaulting him and damaging his car.
PSI Terron D’Costa is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Raju Raut Dessai.
