“The transportation of minerals by road in interest of public safety was stopped during the monsoon season,” director Prasanna Acharya said in a notification. “And whereas, the monsoon has almost rescinded, the ban stands withdrawn with immediate effect,” he added.
The south west monsoon had delayed over Goa and hit only after June 15. Accordingly, the DMG had issued a notification ordering stoppage of ore transportation via road. However, the export of ore from jetties and ports will continue.
The four month long monsoon season will end by September 31.
The iron ore mining season had come to halt since May 31, with a fresh season set to commence in October. After a three-year long ban, ore activities commenced during the last financial year. A total of 62 mining companies have been granted consent to operate by the State with extraction capacity of 15.2 million tonnes annually.
