VERNA: Verna police on Tuesday evening arrested two persons for illegal possession of elephant tusks. The duo was arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act.
According to Verna PI Sandesh Chodankar, both the accused were arrested under Sections 9, 39, 40, 42, r/w 51 of the Wild Life Protection Act 1972.
PI Chodankar informed that on Tuesday at about 8.50 pm near Cipla circle, accused Shrikant Kanekar, 42, who is a resident of Davorlim, Margao and Vignesh Karapurkar, 29, a resident of Aquem Alto, were found in illegal possession of two elephant tusks weighing 13.310 kg, worth Rs 20 lakh approximately in the international market.
