PANJIM: In view of Centre’s order relaxing night curfew pan-India, the State government has extended the closure timing of the liquor licensed shops till 8pm. However, bars and taverns continue to remain closed.
Excise Commissioner Amit Satija took to social media to inform about the development stating, “Liquor shops closure timing extended by 2 hours as per latest direction from the govt. Now Packed Bottle Retail shops can remain open till 8 pm in # Goa (.) Bars & Taverna to remain closed.”
The North and South Goa district administrations had imposed restriction on movement of all individuals for non-essential activities between 9 pm to 5 am from June 1, based on Centre’s guidelines.
In its order on Wednesday, the Commissioner said, “Hence, in partial modification to the order…dated May 3, 2020 the timing to close the Packed Bottle Liquor License Premises is extended up to 8 pm as per direction of the State Executive Committee, Government of Goa, in its meeting dated June 1, 2020.”
All the licensed premises are thus allowed to operate at their usual permitted time and must close by 8 pm to enable the employees and employer to reach home by 9 pm.
