The newly-appointed Managing Committee of the Verna Communidade has decided to approach the Administrator of Communidades, South and the Verna police station to investigate into the alleged offense of trespass, theft and use of explosives to extract rubble stone from the Communidade property at Poriebhatt Hills, Verna.
Members of the Managing Committee comprising of President Savio Correia, Attorney Alvaro Abranches, treasurer Joseph Guias and Escrivao Michael Luis along with complainant Franky Monteiro had carried out a surprise inspection on April 20 of properties belonging to the Communidade at Poriebhatt.
During the inspection, it was found that numerous labourers were carrying out the activities of rubble extraction and loading the same into 15 vehicles present at the time of inspection.
Monteiro said upon finding the members of the managing committee, the labourers and the vehicles fled from the scene and the inspection later revealed that that rubble stones were being illegally excavated with the alleged use of explosives, leaving the rocky hills destroyed and devastated.
As many as 11 hutments were seen erected in the vicinity on the Communidade land apparently to house the migrant labouers. He alleged that this activity has been going on at the site for the past many months with full knowledge of the Administrator of Communidades, south and the Verna police.
