HC imposes Rs 25,000 fine on Aldona Sarpanch for filing false a”davit

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the Aldona Sarpanch for filing a false affidavit and neglecting to set up mandatory Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in the panchayat limits.

While hearing a suo motu petition, the Court reprimanded the Aldona Sarpanch for misguiding by providing incorrect information and alleging that the Goa State Pollution Control Board(GSPCB) was making false claims.

As per the order of the bench, when the GSPCB inspected the MRF at Aldona on June 30, it was found to be closed. But the sarpanch filed an affidavit before the Court and claimed that the MRF facility was operational. The affidavit also stated that the GSPCB’s submission was false.

When GSPCB brought the facts to the notice of the Court, the bench imposed a fine on the Sarpanch.

During the last hearing the Court had asked St Lawrence (Agacaim) and Bhati panchayats to deposit Rs 5 lakh each for not complying with the earlier directives regarding setting of the MRF for garbage management as mandated by law and subsequent contempt notices.

Meanwhile, the suo motu petition on garbage management has now been posted for further hearing on July 25.
