PANJIM: Amidst Goa Police’s stoic silence over the mysterious death of a newborn, the Congress in Goa on Saturday alleged a cover up of the crime. Party spokesperson Debsurbhi Yaduvanshi has launched a scathing attack on the BJP for interfering in day-to-day functioning of the police.
She pointed out to various discrepancies into the investigation of the newborn’s death. “As per the photographs circulated on social media, the child’s age seems to be 2-3 years but the investigation officer says she was 1-2 months of age. The IO also said that the baby’s hands were severed whereas the lower part of the body was intact, which was later eaten by wild animals. Our question is why did the police not act immediately and preserve the body,” she said.
Yaduvanshi had earlier visited the Agassaim Police Station and interacted with the IO to get an update about the case. “The identity of the girl child is not found yet even after ninth day of the case. Why was the police silent all these days,” she questioned.
Pointing out to another case of sexual assault of an underage girl, Yaduvanshi sought to know from the police on the investigation. A month ago, Varun Nayyar, 30-year-old son of a noted hotelier in Goa, was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old. The Congress has questioned police’s silence in this case as well.
“In Goa, a crime happens and police covers it up. People of Goa, please wake up and understand that there is a similar pattern across all BJP rules States that the party interferes with the police,” she alleged.
