MARGAO: The government on Monday said that the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge over River Sal will be tentatively commissioned on January 26.
Saying that the bridge work is complete in all respects, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that the government wants to first widen the approach road on the Cavelossim side of the bridge before its formal commissioning. “There’s a small stretch of narrow road on the Cavelossim side of the bridge which needs widening. The government wants to first widen the road before the bridge is thrown open to vehicular traffic”, Parrikar said.
Asked to outline the government stand on the entry of Sri Ram Sene in the state early next year, the Chief Minister said that his government had made its stand clear vis-v-vis Sri Ram Sene. “I had already made my government’s stand clear on Sri Ram Sene. I don’t change my statements”, he told the media.
On the setting up garbage plants in the state, the Chief Minister said the government is trying to expedite the completion of procedures and formalities. “There are so many things to be done. We have to conduct EIA study, the plants requires clearances from State Environment Impact Assessment panel, which is yet to fall in place. Technical clearances are going on for the moment. Minor land acquisitions are being done. By December-January, we will reach the stage of execution”, he said.
On the controversy surrounding the SGPDA market prayer hall, Parrikar said his government has allotted land much beyond what was asked by the PDA. “If the vendors wants additional space, the government will give approval if a proposal comes from the PDA”, he added.
