Like men’s contribution towards literary
field of Goa, women hold a similar share as well. Hence, to empower and
celebrate these women writers, an organization by the name of Vikasini Mandal
holds a literary festival annually. The ‘Women’s Literary festival 2015’ which
will be held on August 30, will see women from all walks of life especially
from Konkani and Marathi literary field come under one roof and share their
thoughts.
Every year, the festival used to be hosted
in the month of March, this year it has been postponed. One of the organiser
from Vikasini Mandal, Jyoti Kunkolienkar says, “This year we wanted to have
special feature on the month of Shravan. The festival will have discussions and
debates on topics like ‘Effect of television soaps and social media on women’,
‘scientific reasons behind festivals held in Shravan month’ and ‘Poetry
recitation on Shravan’.”

Ask Jyoti, what makes it different from
other literary fests and she replies, “It is different from others as the
festival is for women writers. I wanted to hold a get together for Konkani and
Marathi women writers once in a year so that, they can interact and share their
views with other women writers from Goa on various topics. Since, women are
mostly confined to the four walls of the house they hardly get any opportunity
to reach out to a large readership. Events like literary fests create a
platform for writers to promote their books and widen their horizons by
acquiring knowledge from other known writers. Hosting such events gives me immense
joy as it boost women’s spirit.”
Vikasini Mandal will be organising this
festival in collaboration with Department of Art and Culture, Panaji at
Sukhnivas, Tivre, Marcel at 10 am. The festival will be open for all.
