AGASSAIM: Rosarians XI Sports Club defeated Carambolim Sports Club 2-0, in the Goa Football Association’s Third Division League (Ilhas Zone) match played at Agassaim ground, on Thursday.
The teams laid out their strengths and fought heard to surge ahead from the word go, in an equal tussle Rosarians XI however managed to find the breakthrough early in the match as the Carambolim defense faltered at the goal in the 9th minute.
Rosarians’ Rohan Adkonkar took advantage of a defensive lapse and made his way into the rival citadel before slotting the ball past the rival keeper.
Carambolim SC, however, tried their level best to make a comeback into the game with their players Yogendra Shirodkar, Dyaneshwar Palav and Sigmund Pereira went all out pressurizing the rival defence.
The misfortune followed Carambolim SC as their first choice keeper Samson Benjamin was sent off for a second yellow after he deliberately handled the ball outside the D-area in an attempt to stop the incoming attack.
Rosarians XI who now had one man advantage went all out to score another goal and managed to increase their lead a Rohan once again shot the ball home to complete his brace in the 40th minute.
Post resumption, Rosarians XI started the match on an attacking note hope to pile more misery on the Carambolim side and were somewhat successful when they were awarded a penalty kick after Carambolim’s Vishal Kawlekar recklessly tackled the rival striker.
Rohan stepped up in hopes of completing his hat-trick but shot wide to his teammates’ dismay.
Carambolim SC tried their level best to make a comeback into the game but failed time and again as Rosarians XI defence stood solid rock.
