MARGAO: Once again, Hospicio’s CT-Scan has gone out of order since Friday, putting patients and citizens from South Goa to great hardships.
In the absence of the CT-Scan facility at Hospicio, patients are forced to go to private hospitals.
Sources at Hospicio informed that the scan is down since Friday. The matter was immediately brought to the notice of Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr P Nachinolkar with a request to initiate steps to put the same in order.
When contacted, Dr Nachinolkar told Herald that he has already drawn the attention of the Director of Health Services to the situation following the breakdown of the CT-Scan.
It is learnt that it may take some time to put the scan facility in order given the huge costs involved in getting it back in order. Sources in the know has said that replacement of a tube may cost the government lakhs of rupees, between Rs 25-30 lakh, while a new state-of-the-art scan will cost the exchequer around Rs one crore.
“It is for the government to take a call on the issue. It has to decide whether to replace the ageing tube or go for a new scan. The existing CT-scan is around a decade old and the government has to decide whether to continue with the existing scan or go for a new one,” remarked a doctor in the know.
