PERNEM: With the PWD failing to complete the work of laying water pipeline from Tuem to Keri and hot-mix the dug up portion of the road, Korgao villagers and daily commuters will be facing hardship when the monsoons arrive in June.
Locals have accused PWD’s lack of planning and execution for the condition of roads in Korgao.
Korgao villagers say that bad roads in the village have led to a number of minor accidents. Locals fear that if the roads are hot-mixed before the monsoons, the hot-mix would be washed away in the rains making the roads more uneven and increasing the risk of accidents.
Korgao Sarpanch Nilesh Korgaonkar and the locals have requested department concerned not to hot-mix the road now.
Neha Redkar, a local said, “The road was dug up almost two years ago. Now, when the monsoon is about to arrive, the authorities want to hot mix the road. However, the mud and stones covering the trench have not settled down. As such, if the road is hot mixed before rains, then the tar will be washed away and the road will become uneven with potholes. Because of improper planning and execution, the people will have to suffer through the whole season.”
Nicholas Fernandes, another resident, said, “Already many minor accidents have taken place here. Almost 3/4th of the road is in bad condition and now in rains the remaining road will get damaged making it slippery.”
