The said company may have given their explanation in this regard but the villagers having concern for the village and environment have alleged that it is a deliberate attempt of discharging the foamy water and not rainy water as claimed by the company.

However, now the Nagao Village Panchayat has issued a show cause notice to the said company asking for written explanation of the illegal act within seven days of time. At the same time, the Goa Industrial Development Corporation also directed the head of the company to submit a report in this regard in public interest.

It is pertinent to note that few days back, a foamy discharge was found leaking out of Lupin Laboratories in Verna Industrial Estate, resulting in fear amongst the locals. Thereafter, after the complaint filed by John Philip Pereira, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) held an inspection and is now waiting for a report.

In the complaint, the villagers had asked for a thorough investigation into the matter and demanded an FIR against the culprit.

“We had intimated the Verna Police, besides the GSPCB in this regard. All evidence pertaining to the foamy discharge has been submitted to the police. Such type of act will surely destroy the environment and danger to the people residing over here,” Pereira said.

Earlier, Lupin Company had come out with a clarification note stating that this organisation is a complaint organisation and takes matters concerning the environment and wellbeing of the people in local communities with utmost priority and sincerity.

“We have a robust water disposal and management policy that is implemented with strict adherence and supervision and in close conjunction with applicable regulatory authorities,” Lupin stated.
