PANJIM: The Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved the four-laning of the national highway NH 4A running through Goa at an estimated cost of Rs 1800 cr.
MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhawalikar and discussed various road infrastructure projects.
Parrikar said the ministry has sanctioned Rs 2000 cr for various infrastructural projects. He said that MoRTH has assured that NH 4A works would start immediately.
Parrikar said the Ministry has in-principle approved Rs 1800 cr for expansion of NH4A from Mollem to Khandepar and Farmagudi to Old Goa, which will be broadened to four lanes.
Sources said that funds have been approved in various phases – Rs 461 cr for widening of road from Mollem to Usgao, Rs 122 cr from Ponda to Farmagudi, Rs 272 cr from Farmagudi to Kundaim and Rs 465 cr from Banastarim to Old Goa, which will include a new bridge.
“The entire project will be funded by the Central government through the Road Transport Ministry and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),” sources said.
