ANJUNA: The Anjuna police arrested 42-year-old Mapusa resident Suleman Siddiqui in connection with the 2014 Anjuna murder case.
Suleman is also accused of attacking a Mapusa-based lawyer two years later.
On July 30, 2014 Luiza Fernandes, a 70-year-old resident of Bamonwaddo, Anjuna, was found dead in her house under mysterious circumstances. She stayed with her 55-year-old sister-in-law Tarsila Fernandes, who was found unconscious in the house.
The police had registered a case of murder and attempt to murder. Four persons were arrested, who confessed to the crime and named Siddiqui as the main accused, who was absconding.
Police said Siddiqui planned to kill Luiza after she backed out of a property deal with the accused. Since the deceased had no legal heirs, the accused plotted to kill Luiza with the intent to grab her property.
“The accused Suleman Siddiqui has been arrested after taking custody from Hyderabad police via a transfer warrant. He was absconding for the last four years,” PI Chetan Patil informed.
