PANJIM: Affected liquor traders from the State met the Commissioner of Excise on Monday and sought his urgent intervention in view of the implementation of the revised Supreme Court order so trade in municipal areas and beyond 220 sq mtrs from the national highway can be started.
Affected traders, under the banner of All Goa Liquor Traders Association, met Excise Commissioner Amit Satija demanding the immediate issue of renewed liquor licences.
Association president Dattaprasad Naik said the Commissioner informed them that the department will conduct a fresh survey of 9000 outlets across the State within a week and then issue the licences.
Naik said the renewal of licenses in municipal areas would start immediately. “Commissioner informed us that the file will be sent to the government and after seeking the Chief Secretary’s approval the licenses would be renewed and issued to the traders,” Naik told the media.
He said that except for Sancoale panchayat, which has a population over 20,000 and the outlets are within the 220 mtrs of the highways, all other liquor outlets will be issued the renewed liquor licenses as per the Supreme Court order.
“We are trying our best so that the affected traders would start their business at the earliest,” Naik said.
