PANJIM: Spirited Goa Police put up a sparkling display as they conquered a fighting KK Boys in a five-set thriller in the finals of all-Goa Roque Dias memorial volleyball tournament organised by Crown Club of Santa Cruz at Santa Cruz court, on Sunday. Goa Police won 25-13, 21-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-11.

With Hemant and Nitin earning point from smashes and with effective double blocks, Police won the first set easily. However, K K Boys raised their game with Bharat and Clint spiking with accuracy as Ambrose provide sharp second pass and won the next two sets.
Police slowed the tempo in the fourth, changed tactics using the high lift and strenhgtened their double block to win the fourth set. The fifth was a rather easy affair for Police who took a 4-0 lead and never looked back thereafter to clinch the decider.
Nitin of Police was adjudged best smasher. KK’s Clint won the best player of the final prize.
A minute’s silence was observed in memory of Roque Dias, former executive director SAI, New Delhi, who passed away in Goa.
Mahadev Kamble, Assistant Director, SAI was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Fr Ricardo Pinheiro, Parish Priest, Santa Cruz Church was the guest of honour. Victor Gonsalves, President, Crown Club welcomed. Dr Michael Dias, Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
The tournament was sponsored by Maria Santana Dias, mother of late Roque.
