VASCO: Goa Customs seized 10 gold bars worth Rs 49.89 lakh from the baggage of a passenger from Sharjah at Dabolim International Airport on Saturday.
Goa Customs said its Air Intelligence Unit headed by Y B Sahare, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, seized gold bars weighing 1.175 kg and worth Rs 49.89 lakh at Dabolim International Airport from check in baggage of a passenger, who arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia Flight No G9 492.

The passenger, an Indian passport holder, is a resident of Bhatkal, Karnataka. Goa Customs officers recovered 10 gold bars and a gold chain concealed in the baggage.
The gold has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 and the passenger has been arrested. A case of smuggling of gold has been booked against him.
This is the third gold smuggling case booked by Goa Customs in a fortnight.
So far, this year, Goa Customs officials have seized gold worth Rs 2.31 crore.
