PANJIM: The Tourism Department has approached Government for a decision on whether to float fresh tender inviting bids for beach cleaning, after only one out of two agencies bided was technically qualified.
Bangalore-based Bharat Vikas Group is the only agency which has technically qualified for the beach cleaning tender. Only two companies had submitted bids for the tender, the last date for which was December 5. The initial date for submission was October 10.
Speaking to media persons, Acting Director – Tourism Sanjiv Gadkar said that of the total applications taken, only two agencies had bided. “But only BVG was technically qualified,” he said.
“Hence, we have now approached the Government for a decision on whether to go ahead with BVG or to issue fresh tender,” he added.
Tourism Department had in October had floated a tender inviting bids for providing comprehensive cleaning services of various beaches across State. The task involved collection, segregation, transportation and disposal of garbage.
Drishti Lifesaving, an agency appointed to provide lifeguard services at beaches and is currently tasked with beach cleaning for the Tourism Department.
The department had, In 2014, outsourced the beach cleaning operations to two contractors — Bhumika Cleantech Services Pvt Ltd for North Goa and Ram Cleansers and Developers Pvt Ltd for South Goa. Their contract was terminated in December 2016, following controversy alleging multi-crore scam.
