VASCO: The Centre on Tuesday made it clear that the proposed Mopa airport in Pernem is a prerogative of the State government, virtually throwing the ball into the State government to take a call on the contentious project.
Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, while responding to a Herald query on the feasibility of two airports for Goa said, “If the State government wants the Mopa airport, then they can go ahead with the construction.”
These differences came to the fore during the ‘soft launch’ of the new integrated Dabolim airport terminal building of the Airport Authority of India, as state Congress leaders argued in favour of Dabolim airport as the sole airport for the State while Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar continued to advocate the twin-airport theory.
