National Student’ Union of India (NSUI) today charged that those involved in the drug nexus were behind the attack on their Goa Unit president Sunil Kawthankar.
“We strongly feel that this is an attack carried out by elements who are threatened by our signature campaign against police-drug mafia nexus in Goa,” NSUI national delegate Gautam Bhagat said in a press note.
Kawthankar was attacked on Friday night while he was enroute to Assnora village to meet activists for anti-drugs signature campaign. He has been instrumental in launching the campaign demanding a federal probe into the nexus, which is currently investigated by Crime Branch.
The state chief met the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, a couple of days ago to appraise him about the failure of Goa police in the nexus probe. Unfazed of the recent attack, the NSUI is determined to continue their campaign. “Goa NSUI will not stop our movement against the police-drug mafias. This attack has not weakened us. We appeal to all students of Goa to join us in our movement against the Police-Drug mafias nexus,” Bhagat said.
Kawthankar was attacked when some unidentified men on Bajaj Pulsar motorbike threw a huge stone on the windshield of the car, which was driven by the students’ leader himself. The stone smashed the windshield and hit his face leaving him severely injured. Along with him were three other activists in the car, who escaped unhurt.
The sensational nexus probe led to arrests of seven tainted police officials and an alleged Israeli drug peddler Yaniv Benaim aka Atala, all of whom are currently released on conditional bail. Meanwhile, Crime Branch sleuths is yet to meet Lucky Farmhouse Amori who alleged she has complete evidence to prove the nexus between drug lords, policemen and politician in Goa.
