Tourists rescued by lifeguards

Four tourists were saved by lifeguards in three separate incidents at Baga, Calangute and Candolim beaches on New Year's Day.

CALANGUTE: Four tourists were saved by lifeguards in three separate incidents at Baga, Calangute and Candolim beaches on New Year’s Day.

According to reports, four tourists entered a non-swim zone at Baga Beach despite requests from the lifeguard. Suddenly, Madawal Chickanwal (25) from Dharwad-Karnataka got pulled in due to lateral current. Lifeguards rushed to the spot and brought Madawal safely to the shore. The victim was later shifted to Candolim PHC, where after diagnostic check-up the doctors stated that Madawal was out of danger.

At Calangute Beach, Ashish (24) and Sumit Kushwa (25) ventured into deeper waters and shouted for help as they were unable to stay afloat due to sudden change of water levels. Lifeguards rushed to the spot and brought them safely to the shore.

At Candolim Beach, Kanyum Kataki (30) from Hubali-Karnataka entered a non-swim zone when a huge wave hit him and got pulled by under water current. Lifeguards rushed to the victim and secured and brought him safely to the shore.
