PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday asked the police to expedite cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act.

The decision was taken at the high-powered committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant at Porvorim.
The meeting reviewed the cases registered at the various police stations and it was informed that 32 cases were registered since last three years. In one case, the accused was acquired while 12 cases have been chargesheeted and others are under trial.
The Chief Minister gave directions to both the District Collectors and Superintendent of Police (SPs) to monitor the progress of the cases registered under the Act and to expedite them.
Representatives of SCs and STs who were also present for the meeting, rued lack of convictions stressed speedy investigations and conviction of the offenders so as to prevent atrocities against them.
The report will be submitted to the Government of India.
Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar, Social Welfare Minister Milind Naik, Tribal Affairs Minister Govind Gaude, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, both the Collectors, SPs and Director of Tribal Welfare Triveni Velip attended the meeting.
