MARGAO: A group of people from Macazana village called on Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik and protested over the reported moves by the government to include the village in the Curtorim Zilla Panchayat constituency.
Around 40 villagers met the Cuncolim MLA at his residence and expressed their total opposition to the move, saying since Macazana is part and parcel of Cuncolim Assembly constituency, the village should not be part of Curtorim.
They pointed out that presently, Macazana village is part of the Guirdolim Zilla Panchayat constituency, which consists of villages falling in the Cuncolim Assembly constituency.
After giving the villagers a patient hearing, the Cuncolim MLA requested a delegation of the villagers to accompany him to Panjim to convey their sentiments to the government.
When contacted, the Cuncolim MLA said that he and the representatives of the villagers called on the OSD to the Chief Minister and requested him to take note of the sentiments of the Macazana villagers.
Replying to a question, Rajan said that he has no idea whatsoever over the delimitation exercise currently underway, saying that the exact status of the Zilla Panchayat constituencies will be known only after the government notifies the draft for public scrutiny.
