The administration headed by District Collector Venancio Furtado has planned taluka-wise camps in all the five talukas in South Goa on September 19-20. If Furtado is to be believed, these camps will be held every fortnight in the villages to ensure that all the major services are provided at the door steps.
While the Salcete camp will be held in Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado’s home village Navelim on September 19-20, similar camps have been planned on the two days at the Ravindra bhavan Curchorem (Quepem taluka), Ganapathi Mandap, Rivona (Sanguem taluka), Cortalim panchayat (Mormugao taluka), Cotigao panchayat (Canacona Taluka) and Mollem Panchayat (Dharbandora taluka).
Addressing the media, the district Collector said that a host of services, including residence certificates, caste certificates, affidavits, Income certificates, Form I & XIV, mutations, ration cards, divergence certificates, capacity building, besides implementation of difference schemes of agricultural and animal husbandry department will be taken up at the camps.
Replying to a question, Furtado said the office of the village talathi is an important link between the village and the district administration and will be accorded importance. “During the camps, we will see whether the talathis have made use of the desk top facility. If not, the talathi offices will be refurbished to meet the requirements”, he said, while saying that the administration will overcome the talathi shortage soon.
