This is the seventh death reported due to monkey fever in Sattari. Another woman from the same village had died of the same disease a fortnight ago.
Gaonkar was taken to Valpoi hospital with fever on Friday. A blood test confirmed KFD and treatment was started immediately but due to a fall in blood pressure she died, a hospital official said.
Last year five Pali villagers died due to this disease. The latest death has led to a tense situation in Sattari taluka.
So far 60 patients have been reported as suffering from this disease but the Health department has not arranged any vaccination.
