BAMBOLIM: Urging retired staff of Goa Medical College (GMC) to vacate the official quarters, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Thursday said that the State government will take up construction of the staff buildings which are in dilapidated condition. PWD had already notified 32 GMC staff quarter buildings as unsafe.
“The people who have retired will have to vacate the official staff quarters. The flats are in very bad condition and are not worth staying as there is no proper maintenance. Now we are taking up two buildings first, we are asking for extra FSI so that there can be 25 flats per building,” Rane said.
GMC Director of Administration, Dattaram Sardesai, has asked occupants of 268 quarters in 32 buildings belonging to GMC to voluntarily evacuate the structures owing to their dangerous condition.
Sardesai, in his notice, has cautioned that the government and GMC administration will not be responsible for loss of any life, limb, and property arising out of any incident from the dangerous, dilapidated condition of these buildings.
The occupants have urged the Health Minister to provide other government quarters as alternative.
