PTI, HYDERABAD: The Rachakonda Police arrested a youth from Mapusa for allegedly peddling illegal drugs to college students at Hyderabad.
The Police said that they seized drugs worth Rs 7.92 lakh from Sayan Lahiri (27) of Mapusa and a native of West Bengal.
The police seized from Lahiri Blue Punisher-60 worth Rs 3 lakh, Lacasa Del Paper-40 worth Rs 2 lakh and the Mandy drug worth Rs 1.8 lakh, besides 3.9 grams of cocaine worth about Rs 1 lakh.
The police have also seized “incriminating materials” from his possession.
The police registered a case against Lahiri under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and also seized his cell phone.
Lahiri has been remanded in judicial custody and the police are on the lookout for Lahiri’s supplier Edmund Dilip Spencer Pereira. It is learnt that last week, the police picked up two other drug peddlers one from Housing Board-Mapusa and the other from Arambol.
According to the police, Lahiri had allegedly been peddling drugs in Goa for the last three years but, owing to poor business, decided to shift to Hyderabad, where he hoped to sell drugs at higher rates.
During questioning, he told police that he was targeting college students. The police said they had information about Lahiri’s activities at an engineering college and caught him red-handed with the drugs.
