MARGAO: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday visited sites of Western Bypass National Highway along with Fatorda, Benaulim and Navelim MLAs. The Chief Minister while affirming that road on stilts was not the only solution to prevent flooding has assured that the rain water passage will be taken care of even while planning road without stilts.
The Chief Minister was assisted by Minister Vijai Sardesai, Luizinho Faleiro and Churchill Alemao along with PWD engineers. He assured the people to design the road without stilts in such a manner where in there will be passage of water and will prevent flooding too.
“The flooding in these areas is quite old and having road on stilts is not going to solve the problem now. What is required is a dredging of the river Sal which takes all this water to sea ultimately,” he said.
He also said that there will be enough box channels and arrangements for water passages made so that the problem doesn’t persist.
The Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, while discussing the solution for the flooding, said the dredging of river Sal was necessary. To this the Chief Minister said that the EIA is being processed and soon there will be breakthrough.
“Leave the design and planning part to us. We will ensure the free passage of water,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also inspected a part of the bypass road in Navelim, and Benaulim too and has assured to do the needful.
